Family Walk – Babbacombe and Oddicombe Beaches

March 8, 2021

Family walk 3km

This family walk comes with a warning. It takes in two beautiful and very Torbay different beaches but also includes some steep hills (check out the cliff railway at Oddicombe Beach for help with these). Follow quiet tree-lined paths, stroll along the sea shore and climb back up to the hustle, bustle and stunning views of Babbacombe Downs. All within easy reach of two of Torbay’s best fish and chip shops!

Walking route maps
  • Follow this Torquay walk on the OSMaps app
  • Download our walk PDF, complete with instructions, free child-friendly map and a fun family game

Useful information
  • Distance: 3 kilometres (circular walk)
  • Mud factor: road, path and (optional) beach
  • Parking: Walls Hill car park TQ1 3LZ (charges)
  • Toilets: Babbacombe Downs TQ1 3LU
  • Features: pebble beaches, cliff railway, paddling, cafes
  • Pushchair: no
  • Refreshments: cafes and snacks on Babbacombe Downs and at Oddicombe Beach
  • National routes: South West Coast Path
  • Take Care: The beach lanes have no pavements and some traffic
Walk instructions
  1. Leave the car park on the lane you drove in on, walking in the opposite direction
  2. Before the cricket club, take the left fork down the hill
  3. Follow this path down through the trees as it loops past a big house
  4. At the lane turn right down the steep hill towards Babbacombe Beach
  5. At the far end of Babbacombe Beach follow the wooden walkway
  6. When you come to a set of steep steps follow them down
  7. Follow the path along to Oddicombe Beach (seaside fun and cafe)
  8. Walk up the footpaths and lane to Babbacombe Downs (cliff railway option here)
  9. Enjoy the views from Babbacombe Downs as you head back to the car park
