Did you know that Scotland’s Corrour station was the UK’s highest mainline train station? Or that Denton station in Greater Manchester is the UK’s least-used station? Or that the UK’s shortest branch line, Stourbridge is only 1.2 kilometres long?
The variety of destinations the UK train network offers is astounding, but exploring the UK by train isn’t just about getting somewhere. As well as being a sustainable travel option, train journeys are often more relaxed, sociable and interesting than a motorway drive. From the train you can view at your leisure, countryside and city landscapes that you just wouldn’t see from the car.
If you’re fed up with traffic and airport hassles, and ready to invite the slow-travel vibe into your life, why not hop on board with me. You won’t regret the decision.
I love outdoor activities but I don’t like driving to some of the locations I want to visit. Over the last few years I’ve become more aware of how important it is to reduce my carbon emissions, and one way I’ve done this is to switch to car-free adventures by train.
It’s been enormous fun. I haven’t found an outdoor activity yet that you can’t do by train in the UK, and my confidence in my ability to explore has increased measurably. I’ve also enjoyed sharing my train adventure experiences with friends, family and my growing audience of interested followers. This website is packed full of outdoor activities you can do by train, feel free to try them yourself.
And keep in touch to find out what I get up to next.
