My writing career started as co-author of the popular outdoor blog Two Blondes Walking. Following the success of that, in 2015 I launched Fi Darby Freelance, my own outdoor and travel writing business.
My writing clients include the BBC’s Countryfile Magazine and mapping giant Ordnance Survey, and I’ve been an Ordnance Survey Champion since 2016. I also work closely with the train company GWR to produce my train adventures series.
As well as sustainable transport, I specialise in walking routes, solo outdoor experiences and adventure for the over 50s. I am a Mountain Training qualified Hill and Moorland Leader.
The outdoor lifestyle and travel go hand in hand. Because of of this, our journey experiences and choices are as important as the destinations we visit. The slow journey is becoming popular for very good reason; most of us are seeking antidotes to frenzied everyday lives.
Realising this led to my interest in eco-friendly travel, not to mention my train adventures research (some might say obsession). But accessing outdoor spaces by public transport isn’t just about the experience. Choosing flight-free holidays or car-free days out can contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle.
Something we all want to embrace.
