About Fi

Here in Devon, I have some of the UK’s best outdoor locations right on my doorstep. Whether I want to wild camp on Dartmoor or swim from a beautiful beach, I can be in some of the UK’s best outdoor locations in minutes.

I have spent much of my life helping other people to enjoy the outdoor lifestyle that has done so much for me. As a Scout leader, DofE leader, outdoor instructor, and more recently as an outdoor writer and influencer, I’ve helped many people find the confidence they need to take their first steps into outdoor activities.

If I sound proud of my achievements, it's because I am.

My writing career started as co-author of the popular outdoor blog Two Blondes Walking and in 2015 I launched Fi Darby Freelance, my own outdoor and travel writing business.

My clients include the BBC’s Countryfile Magazine and mapping giant Ordnance Survey, I have been an Ordnance Survey Champion since 2016. I also work closely with GWR to produce my train adventures series.

As well as sustainable transport, I specialise in walking routes, solo outdoor experiences and adventure for the over 50s. I am a Mountain Training qualified Hill and Moorland Leader.

I can help your website work for you.

Whether you’re looking for sales or followers, online writing is about getting your message across. My understanding of SEO techniques combined with my expert outdoor and travel knowledge, light-touch instructions and encouraging approach will help your website do exactly that.

It will also help you and your audience get outside more.

Sustainability

In the past two decades, I’ve happily seen the great outdoors open up to many more people. The resulting vast and growing interest in destinations, open spaces and outdoor leisure activities has left writers in the industry with a big responsibility; our writing needs to balance business needs against sustainability, whilst continuing to deliver practical tips on how to gain confidence and stay safe.

How we share our information matters.

It’s no longer enough to give guidance on how to visit a location. As travellers through our countryside, we have a responsibility to look after our places and their communities; getting to know them more deeply and treading more softly as we go.

Our outdoor spaces will look after us if we look after them.

Over the last few years I’ve been finding ways to live more sustainably. I’ve changed my travel habits, my approach to food and my considerations when it comes to outdoor gear. This blog is testament to how a few small changes can lead to a much more planet-friendly lifestyle.
