Family Walk – Bishops Walk and Anstey’s Cove

February 25, 2021

Family Walk – 2km

The kids will love the tiny pebbled beach at Anstey’s Cove. Nestled between dramatic rock forms and cliffside woodland, it often has the bluest water of any beach in Torbay. It can also be a good place to spot seals. Save the beach for later though, this walk though the woods ends up at a play park and community cafe. Plenty to keep the whole family happy.

Walking route maps
  • Follow this Torquay walk on the OSMaps app
  • Download our walk PDF, complete with instructions, free child-friendly map and game
Useful information
  • Distance: 2.3 kilometres
  • Mud factor: woodland path, road and meadow (muddy in winter)
  • Parking: Anstey’s Cove car park TQ1 2JE (CCTV, charges)
  • Toilets: Meadfoot Sea Road TQ1 2LQ
  • Features: Pebble beach, woodland walk, play area, cafe
  • Game: ‘I can hear’
  • Pushchair: No
  • Refreshments: Wellswood Village or the community cafe by the play park
  • National routes: South West Coast Path
  • Take care: Steep cliffs along Bishop’s Walk
Walk instructions
  1. From the car park cross the road and take the higher path into the woods.
  2. Enjoy the sea views and sniff the edible wild leek.
  3. Follow the woodland path for 1.2 km until you come to a road.
  4. Turn right and follow the road downhill past the houses.
  5. Cross another road then enter the meadow.
  6. Enjoy the community cafe and play park (Wellswood shops are just up the road).
  7. Cross the meadow back to your car.
  8. For additional fun, take the steep slope down to Anstey’s Cove.
